Shape: A Matter of Preference
Diamonds are cut in a variety of shapes to include round or brilliant, square or princess, oval, heart, pear, rectangle or emerald, marquise, baguette, triangle or trillion, and many more. The shape of a diamond is in reference to its basic form. It is not to be confused with cut, which denotes the ability of the stone to reflect light.
Each diamond shape has its unique properties that include strengths as well as weaknesses. In general, the choice of diamond shape is a matter of personal preference. It can be either a reflection or expression of one’s personality or individuality.
In choosing diamond shape, it is important to note that the stone’s brilliance greatly depends on its shape as well. Round-cut diamonds are the most brilliant of all shapes because of the high number of facets within the stone.
